Step 1: Check System Requirements
Before installing, make sure your computer meets the system requirements for the version of QuickBooks Desktop you’re installing (Pro, Premier, Enterprise).
- Operating System: Windows 11, 10 (64-bit)
- RAM: Minimum 4GB (8GB or more recommended)
- Processor: 2.4 GHz minimum
- Disk Space: At least 2.5GB of free space

Step 2: Download QuickBooks Desktop
If you have the installation CD or a download link, you can use either to start the installation process.
Download QuickBooks:
- Visit the QuickBooks Desktop Download page on the QuickBooks website.
- Select your version (Pro, Premier, or Enterprise) and your year (e.g., 2024).
- Download the installer to your computer.
Step 3: Run the QuickBooks Installer
- Locate the Setup File:
Once the download is complete (or if you’re using the installation CD), find the QuickBooks installer file (usually named something likeQuickBooksSetup.exe
). - Run the Installer:
Double-click on the file to start the installation process. If prompted by Windows, confirm you want to allow the app to make changes.
Step 4: Install QuickBooks Desktop
- Select Installation Type:
- Express Install: Choose this for a quick installation if you’re a first-time user or installing QuickBooks on a single computer.
- Custom and Network Options: Choose this if you want to install QuickBooks for multiple users or store your company files on a server.
- Follow the On-Screen Instructions:
- Select where you want to install QuickBooks.
- Choose if the computer is used for workstations (Client) or server setup (Hosting).
Step 5: Enter Your License and Product Numbers
During installation, you’ll be prompted to enter your license and product numbers. These numbers are:
- In your email (if you purchased QuickBooks from us)
Step 6: Complete the Installation
- After entering your license information, continue with the installation.
- Once the installation is complete, click Finish.
Step 7: Open QuickBooks Desktop
- After installation, you’ll find the QuickBooks Desktop icon on your desktop or in the Start menu.
- Double-click the icon to open QuickBooks.
Step 8: Activate QuickBooks
- When you first open QuickBooks, you’ll be prompted to activate the software.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to activate QuickBooks by signing in with your Intuit account or creating a new account.
- After activation, you’re ready to start using QuickBooks.
Step 9: Set Up Your Company File (Optional)
- After installation, you’ll be prompted to create a company file or open an existing one.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to set up your company file, enter your business information, and customize QuickBooks to your needs.
Step 10: Install Updates (Optional)
- It’s a good idea to check for any updates after installation.
- Open QuickBooks and go to Help > Update QuickBooks Desktop.
- Select Update Now and click Get Updates.
